art matters
I love to paint in my spare time. It’s something I have enjoyed since childhood.
Even at school, apart from singing, my favourite lessons were those aspects of geography or history where I was given the opportunity to draw.
After both my daughters completed their GSCE exams I took an A level in Art myself.
I’m not a prolific painter.. I have to be motivated by an image that really captures my imagination.
However, living in Rostrevor with Carlingford Lough the the Mourne Mountains on my doorstep, I can’t complain about a lack of inspiring views.
I’ve painted the sea and the mountains in acrylics and in oils, on canvas and on board, and even in a collage of remnants of locally woven tweed.
I also draw inspiration from Irish music and dance.
My favourite subjects are set dancers, and session musicians .
My work has featured in local exhibitions as part of the Fiddlers Green Festival and my daughter Eimear and I had our own exhibition entitled “Relative Values”.
